The Southwest of Scotland is home of the bike – literally! Our very own Kirkpatrick Macmillan invented the first pedal bike or velocipede in 1839. Indeed it is in his honour that the C2C Kirkpatrick MacMillan route, the South of Scotland’s coast to coast cycle route is named.

For the thrill of mountain & gravel biking at night, there is nowhere better than Galloway Forest Park. The UK’s first dark skies park there is little or no light pollution, which means that on a clear night you can see over 7,000 stars and planets with the naked eye, with the Milky Way clearly visible. This year in particular the Aurora Borealis has been a stunning phenomenon.
