Dumfries & Galloway

The best walks in Dumfries and Galloway can all be downloaded from our website many of which I have walked. Inevitably many of which remain on my Galloway bucket list. I have somewhat lazily collated these walking guides in the blue box on the following webpage Activities to make them easy to access all in one place. I could have spent hours reproducing my own version of the best walks in Dumfries & Galloway adding little in the process so please click on Beset Gatehouse Walks below for the definitive guide.

Best Gatehouse Walks click to download the guide for our local area Gatehouse of Fleet which has something for everyone. Just ask if you need any advice on the routes and in the unlikely event you get confused by the maps just call Jonathan on 0771 341 2030.

Gatehouse of Fleet

Galloway is a walkers paradise, with trails suitable for all ages & abilities. Around Gatehouse of Fleet there are some beautiful woodland walks, including Cally Woods and Castramon Wood. Snowdrops, Crocus and daffodil flowers are followed by carpets of bluebells in spring, and the woods come alive with red squirrels, pine martens and deer to name a few. The walk to the Rutherford monument has amazing views but sturdy shoes are required! The Inbye walk around the Viaduct is a must for those who want to immerse themselves in Galloway and the by gone era of steam trains.

Slightly further afield you can find wonderful coastal paths and numerous trails through Galloway Forest Park. Additionally there are other hill climbs such as Cairnsmore of Fleet and the more challenging Merrick, both of which provide stunning views. Regular Golden eagle sightings assured! The Best Walks in Dumfries & Galloway are spread out over a wide geographic area so care should always be taken to judge time well especially in winter when the daylight hours are short. Accordingly but not unsurprisingly the southern highlands while milder than their northern counterparts most of the time can catch even the experienced walker out so please take care.
